Internet Marketing for Architectural Visualization

Did you know that there are over 3 Billion searches done on Google per day? Facebook alone has over 500 Million active users.  Even Twitter delivers 50 million tweets (short messages) per day.   Using the case studies of 3DAS & 3DATS, we will teach you how we gained and retained over 20,000+ email subscribers in less than 3 years through internet marketing. In your first day of training, we will teach you the overall concept, search engine marketing, and social media.  On the second day, we build on those concepts, show case studies of successful businesses, and implement their ideas into the uniqueness of your business (or the business you work for).  NOTE:  Although this course will use many examples of architectural visualization, the concepts and tools can be used for almost any business.

3ds Max Advanced Modeling

This course is designed for users with an intermediate level knowledge of 3ds Max who are already familiar with general modeling features. The course is designed to teach students an advanced and highly efficient way to create complex objects for visualization projects, whether it’s a chair or a vase, car or chandelier, tree or bath tub… just about anything. Students will be shown nearly every modeling tool available in 3ds Max for fast and effective work. The instructor will demonstrate how to improvise and use unique modeling techniques to find best ratio between speed and quality. Using practical exercises and visual examples, students will learn useful tools and commands, critical modifiers, hidden powers of Editable Poly and Editable Spline objects, modeling tips and tricks, how to create materials and textures, and much more.

V-Ray Beginner and Intermediate

This course is designed for users with less than 12 months of production experience in V-Ray. All major features within V-Ray are explained through an easy to understand approach. Rather than providing a list of good settings, which may work on some scenes and not others, the instructor dissects each major setting and explains the math and reasoning behind the settings so that students will know how to troubleshoot any scene and get the best mixture of speed and quality. All settings fall into 3 categories; quality settings, appearance settings, and tools. The instructor shows students how to maximize quality by controlling noise and improving detail, while simultaneously minimizing render times.

V-Ray Advanced Level 1

This course is designed for users with at least 12 months of production experience in V-Ray. Beginning with an in-depth look at the power of Linear and Physical Workflows, the instructor walks through the entire process of setting up an image using physically-based colors, materials, lighting, and cameras. This includes a study of how to accurately measure rendered results and troubleshoot using Render Elements and 32 bit Compositing.
Using several production scenes the instructor demonstrates how to address some of the common challenges such as optimizing speed, detail, and noise as well how to work with large, complex scenes. Many advanced VRay features are explored including, Ambient Occlusion, VRayPhysical Camera, VRayLightMtl, VRayIES, and Image Based Lighting using HDRI and VHDRI.

Photoshop Beginner and Intermediate

Learn critical Photoshop settings and intermediate techniques that professionals use every day.  On the first day we will cover the overall interface and critical tools used in CS5.  On the second day, we learn to use additional enhancement tools and concepts. All the tools and concepts taught in this course can be applied in every type of business that needs to manipulate photos (web design, graphics design, photography and CG visualization are just a few examples).  If you ever needed to learn Photoshop or the new tools in CS5 quickly, this is the class for you!

Mental ray_Converting a Vray Max scene to mental ray



In production/Architecture/3D visualisation companies, it is very common for users to inherit/acquire 3D scenes with incompatible rendering engines and shaders/bitmaps.
The majority of these 3D scenes come in VRay (i.e. Archmodels; Turbosquid; etc). Due to the amount of geometry/3D scenes that one may require converting, it is often commendable to use script/s to speed up this otherwise tedious and time consuming process.
The following steps will help you fast track the above process:


1-One needs to have a version of vray (i.e. even a trial version would be ok) compatible with your version of Max, already installed. It is highly advisable to work in a separate Max scene to the main one, to prevent merging any possible bugs; missing bitmaps; etc.
Once the conversion/s is/are completed and "stress tested” for errors, then it is safe to merge it/them into one's main scene.


2 –Open your Vray Max scene and run the script as described in The Book.





3-Now that the scene had been converted to mental ray; you need to load the mental ray renderer. Some of the original Vray material slots may become empty during the conversion. Open the "material/map browser" dialog to view all materials in the scene. Select a slot in the material editor. Back on the "material/map browser" dialog, double click on any of the newly converted mr materials to load it in the material editor. Repeat the action with all relevant materials from the "material/map browser" dialog.






4-When converting the scene from Vray to mental ray, the script tries to maintain the integrity of each material (i.e. glossy levels, bitmaps, values, etc) however, certain materials may still require some attention:

Prior to moving bitmaps and/or changing mental ray presets, one should make a copy of the relevant slot/s for reference purposes(i.e. drag and drop it onto another slot).
This is mainly in case one requires copying and pasting settings/bitmaps from the reference copy onto the new preset.




Vray reads opacity as white and mental ray reads it as black. As result one may require inverting colours in order for mental ray to read them accurately.
To do this, simply check/enable the "invert" function, on the bitmap "output" parameters".
The opacity bitmaps require moving to the "cutout" toggle, under the "special purpose map" parameters.




Since there are mental ray preset shaders for most real world materials, you may wish to apply these physically accurate template shaders to some of these newly converted materials.
Some of the most popular templates used are: Metal materials (i.e. chrome, brushed metal etc); Glass (i.e. glass thin geometry; glass solid geometry for thick glass and glass physical for goblets, champagne flutes etc); glossy plastic; water; masonry and promaterial shaders.

Some of these new templates may have the diffuse colour values very low; simply increase it to 1.0.
Also the colour "diffuse" toggle may be disabled by default; simply scroll down to the general maps parameters and check the "diffuse" color toggle to enable it.







Also, increase the "fast glossy interpolation" value preset as explained in our book.
To clear all unused Vray materials in the scene, simply click the "utilities" menu from the material editor.
On the dropdown list, choose the condense material editor slots function.
To be on the safe side,some users also choose the "reset material editor slots" utility thereafter.
Finally, in the material editor, one can reload the shaders being used in the scene as described earlier; test render the scene for any possible errors and merge it/them into your main scene.
